M. Cecilia Martinez, a true pioneer in the world of dogs, embarked on a lifelong journey with canines that began in 1956. Growing up surrounded by dogs, developed an innate understanding and passion for these loyal companions from an early age. By the 1970s, this passion had evolved into a professional pursuit as I delved into the realms of dog training, breeding, and showing.
In 1974, I took a significant step forward by founding Southernwind Kennels, specializing in German Shepherds and Malinois. This marked the beginning of a distinguished career dedicated to the betterment of canine companionship. I quickly became recognized for the expertise, becoming a member of prestigious clubs such as the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in Puerto Rico.
The 1980s brought further milestones for my 's K9 life career. Not content with merely breeding and showing dogs, I sought to enhance the field of canine training. In 1980, developed a groundbreaking sensory and environmental program, laying the foundation for modern training methodologies. This program was continually refined and updated over the years, reflecting my commitment to innovation and excellence.
My experience extended beyond breeding and training, becoming also a respected judge in the world of dog shows. Certified by both the AKC and FCI, traveled extensively, evaluating breeds and standards in various countries. Additionally, served as a Temperament Test Judge for the AKC, contributing to the assessment and understanding of canine behavior.
In the realm of public service, I had the most satisfying experience of being able to being selected and offer contributions as an advisor and trainer for law enforcement agencies. From 1994 to 2015, served as an advisor and trainer for the Mounted Police and K9 Department, sharing my expertise in canine behavior and training techniques. This role allowed me to make a tangible difference in public safety while further advancing the field of canine training.
Beyond the professional endeavors, I was also deeply committed to animal welfare and advocacy. For a decade, served on the Board of Directors of the PR Humane Society, working tirelessly to promote the well-being of animals in our community. My dedication to animal welfare extended to business endeavors as well; in 1980, became the first woman to develop a Guard and Protection Dog Business, pioneering efforts to enhance security with canine companions. Keeping always in mind the health and security of my dogs.
Throughout this remarkable journey spanning over four decades, remained steadfast in the dedication to dogs. From breeding and training to judging and advocacy, I feel I left an indelible mark on the world of canines. Always hoping my legacy serves as an inspiration to future generations of dog enthusiasts, emphasizing the importance of compassion, Love, innovation, and expertise in the pursuit of excellence in canine companionship.
